Medication details

Gina is the first post-menopausal hormone replacement therapy (HRT) available in the UK without a prescription. It’s a low-dose vaginal estrogen tablet that’s effective in treating menopausal symptoms like vaginal dryness, itching, soreness, and pain during sex.

Gina is a vaginal tablet designed to alleviate menopausal symptoms in the vagina, such as dryness, irritation, soreness, itching, and discomfort during intercourse. This condition, known as "vaginal atrophy," is caused by a natural drop in estrogen levels after menopause. Gina works by releasing estradiol locally in the vagina to replenish the decreased estrogen levels and provide relief.

Each Gina vaginal tablet contains 10 micrograms of estradiol (as estradiol hemihydrate). Additional ingredients include hypromellose, lactose monohydrate, maize starch, magnesium stearate, and a film-coating comprising hypromellose and macrogol 6000.

Side Effects

As with any medication, Gina may cause side effects, although not everyone will experience them. Common side effects include headache, stomach pain, and vaginal bleeding, discharge, or discomfort. Uncommon side effects might include fungal genital infection, nausea, rash, weight increase, hot flush, and high blood pressure. Very rare side effects could entail diarrhea, water retention, worsened migraines, and generalized hypersensitivity. If you experience a serious allergic reaction or any severe side effects, discontinue use immediately and seek medical attention.

Before using Gina, consult your pharmacist or doctor and disclose your medical history, especially if you have or have had womb or ovarian cancer, vaginal or genital bleeding, liver disease, blood clotting disorders, breast cancer, or other relevant conditions. Do not use Gina if you are allergic to estradiol or its ingredients, or if you have certain medical conditions. Seek prompt medical advice if you observe changes in your health or experience certain symptoms while using Gina.
Regularly review your Gina treatment with your pharmacist and healthcare provider. Remember to attend recommended screenings and follow advice for breast and cervical health. If you have concerns about memory loss or other conditions, speak with your doctor. Keep in mind that Gina is not intended for use in children or adolescents, pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Storage and Disposal
Keep Gina out of reach of children and do not refrigerate. Do not use after the expiry date. To protect the environment, dispose of unused medicine properly.
